In July of 2022, I was thoroughly sick of The Sims 4. The way my game was running was buggy and frustrating, and it just seemed like a complete mess. As a kind of last ditch effort, one Saturday, I decided to get rid of all of my mods and start fresh. Since my favorite type of gameplay in The Sims 2 had always been traditional legacy gameplay– last ten generations and try to do everything you can– I decided to start with that. I also restricted packs down to the base game and decided to start fresh like I always did, with a character whose name began with A (Alphabet Legacy style) and the random last name of Evelyn, after Eve from the Bible.
I never expected that I would actually keep playing it.
I posted my experience on Twitter and unlike most things I post, it actually did get shared a fair bit, which kept me going. I unlocked packs gradually, and in doing so, experienced the game in a very different and rewarding way. So I kept at it.
Six generations and counting….
Generations 1-5 are still currently archived on Twitter. Link here.
